10 of my top weight loss secrets:

1. Keeping a Journal - This helps to know where your going and where you've been. In the past I've kept tabs in a spiral notebook on things like weight measurements and what foods I've eaten.

2. Find physical activity that I like. This can be a number of things like swimming, hiking, biking, racquet ball, tennis, roller blading, etc. When I'm not sure what I want to I just go for a walk because at least this is doing something physical.

3. When I'm hungry I drink lots of water. Water can help keep you full when your craving food.

4. Don't skip meals - This just leads to overeating in the long run. You get hungry more often and snack more often, just don't do it! Generally it's best to eat 3 small but well rounded meals per day.

5. A great tasting low fat spread can be made out of dijon mustard and low fat yogurt. It's a good substitute for a sandwich spread or on wheat toast.

6. Eat slowly and savor every bite. Sounds simple, but it's sometimes hard to do. Eating fast is not good for digestion.

7. Always have a grocery list when you go shopping and stick to it. Also, eat before you go so you're less tempted to buy excess food.

8. Try not to eat before bed time. Give yourself several hours and drink water if you're hungry. This may take some time to get used to but it should help with your weight loss. Your metabolism is slower when you sleep so you don't burn as many calories.

9. Cut out soft drinks, even diet soft drinks. There is nothing but empty calories here and some doctors say diet soda can actually make you crave food.

10. I saved the best for last because I think it's one of the most important things you can do. Use the buddy system when dieting and exercising. No, not because misery loves company, but because it's so much easier to exercise when your a pair. You can also help each other out with a little friendly weight loss competition.

Lose weight fast and easy

Is there really such a thing? I guess that's all up to the dieter to answer for themselves. Diets such as Atkins and South Beach encourage high protein and a lower carbs. You can lose weight fast on this type of plan.

Furthermore these high protein - low carbohydrate diets are good for offering long term eating plans. There is no real "end" to the diet but more of a flexibility plan.

Here is a Squidoo lens that details many of these types of diet programs. The lens is called "Fast and easy ways to lose weight".

Why diet?

Dieting is hard! period. I hate being hungry all the time, it's no fun. But the first part is the worst part and that's the thing to remember.

The first stage of many of today's popular diets are the hardest. The basic idea in the first few weeks is to shock your system into accepting a major change in your eating plan.

Once you move through that first stage you go through a middle stage of further adjustment. Eventually you wind up on a permanent healthy eating plan that you remain committed to. It is at this stage that the diet no longer seems like a diet.

It's easy to stay on the healthy eating plan because you look and feel better. You won't worry so much about falling off a wagon because there won't really be one to fall off of. That's the way I see it anyway.

3 reasons to join a diet membership website

1. The Support
In my opinion, membership websites offer much better support than free dieting sites. I find that I can post in the forums of free websites and have my question answered quickly, but the problem is that the answers are not always complete. I get a lot of information or advice that's all over the place in the free web forums.

Nothing wrong with that, but it's hard to know who to listen to and I find myself doing a lot of extra research to get answers. Research is a good idea no matter who you're taking advice from, but I find that there are much more people who are qualified to answer my questions when I post on a paid membership site.

2. Professional advice
Input from people who know what they are talking about is priceless! As I said earlier, I'm a big fan of research but I don't like getting caught up in it. It's nice when your answers come from people who are professionals because they are a foundation you can rely on.

Many Doctors and Nutritionists are paid to answer questions in forums. These are people that are "in the know" when it comes to answering questions about health and dieting. Many times I find my exact question has been answered already in the forums of a lot of membership sites.

Another thing is that I've had some rude responses sometimes when I post in the free sites. In the paid sites I never run into this problem. People are generally helpful but sometimes they'll jump on your case just for posting a question that's already been answered.

If I post a question that's already been answered on a paid forum, other members will simply re-answer my question or direct me to where I need to go. Members in private forums are polite about posting and personally I can't stand it when people are rude on the internet!

3. Personal Mentorship
There are many great tools at the online sites and I find they are generally more useful than the free website tools. Many of these programs help you to create a good customized plan that fits your lifestyle and personality. You can also choose to share these tools with others and have dieting partners or mentors if you like.

I went through a time when this was a great thing to rely on. Weight tracking and reporting tools for example, really helped me the few times I went off the wagon. Many of these tools helped me set and formalize my goals which kept me in check when I left the path. I find it's important to use the online tools help reach your goals because they make your goals more concrete.

A Review of Some of the Top Online Diet Programs

My personal favorite online diet site is ediets.com. They have so many kinds of plans to choose from. Many of their programs are very similar to the other popular diets out there.

Also, they help you figure out the right match by having you fill out an online question forms. All and all it's a pretty good system.

The diet reviews on this website tend to agree with me on this. I think it's definitely worth a read if you're considering an online diet program.
